Tooldledo- Manage you to do’s

Everyone has a to do list. Some have it in a notebook, some keep a text file on their desktop, and some use their iPhones.

Me. Well I use a website and my iPod touch. The web site I use is called Toodledo

Is is a pretty basic tool, but comes with a lot a features. It has the ability to import to do’s from other programs and databases, and can export all your to do’s also.

Another good thing about Toodledo is that way to access it. They have an iPhone App which I use everyday for school, and just basic things around the house.

They also have a https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3789>Firefox Extension which makes it easy to take notes or to do’s from an email for webs site. You can also set up a keyboard shortcut to takes note if you the type of person that likes shortcuts.

Thats how I keep track of my to do’s. Leave a comment and tell me, what to do’s applications do you use?

Software Review: Chris Pirillo’s Adobe Air App Pixie Check List

We all know Chris Pirillo, no need for an introduction. Chris recently released some of his one Adobe Air Applications.

Chris asked some people to write a review for his software. So here it goes.

The Good

  • It is cross platform. It is an Air application. Runs on Linux, Windows, and Mac.
  • Install is easy since it is  an Air application
  • The UI is small and easy to learn (uncluttered)
  • It is very easy to export a database for the To-do’s
  • The Application is functional and does what it is supposed to do.

The Bad

  • It is almost to simple to donate for
  • The whole UI is filled with links to Chris’s Blog, Twitter, and Youtube (This one pisses me off)
  • There are plenty of other free web applications and desktop applications that are much better.

How can we fix this?
Hard question easy answer. Open source. If Chris would put out the source code to the software his following of geeks would take hold of it and craft it into what I think would be an amazing program that might actually be useful. Or if Chris can make the software more functional. Why should I donate to Chris for reinventing the wheel? I think that is terrible to ask for a donation for such a simple app. How about ” Hey try out this software, and let me know what you think” That sounds much better than “Hey donate for this software”.

If you would like to donate or get this application. Head on over to http://www.apps.pirillo.com to get them.

Can teens blog?

If you are new to this blog you may not know, but I am a 15 year old kid. Thats right the content you are enjoying comes from a 15 year old kid sitting at his desk. Weird to think that huh?Or is it? Blogging is just another form of journalism, and students have been journalist for years. From the school newspaper to local news papers students have been writing stories for the public for a while.

Why does it seem so weird to have a 15 year old blog? Is it hard to comprehend that a teen knows this much about technology. I don’t think so, but some adults and even teens do.It really doesn’t matter I (and my generation) are the future, and this is the way we communicate along with (Mypsace, Facebook, and Instant messaging). This is the way the future will communicate and get its news.

The only reason I bring this up is because I have had a few people come to me and say that I should be more concerned with school then my blog. I told them politely that I am an A,B student and do well in school. They looked at me like I was crazy.

I understand that these people don’t understand that blogging is a form of journalism, creativity, and expression. What I don’t get is how people can be this ignorant.Blogs have been around for years now, and now are basically mainstream. Then why can’t a teen be mainstream? Why can’t a teen be free to tell people about technology?

If you have an opinion about this subject go ahead and leave a comment, and don’t feel closed out to turn me down. I understand that some other people have different opinions

P.S.

This conversation happened between me and a teacher. This shows where are tax dollars are going…

5 Reasons Linux might be for you.

The post I did on 5 reasons Linux might not be for you created a lot of feedback. I like  amount of feedback you gave so, here is a list of 5 reasons why Linux may be for you.

1.  You don’t want or don’t need to pay for Windows.

The average cost of Windows is about $239 (BestBuy Price). The average cost of Linux is usually free (with maybe a few licensing issues). The difference between free and $239 is pretty hefty. If all you are really going to do is surf the web then you might just be better going with Linux because 1. it didn’t cost you anything, and 2. you don’t have to pay for an upgrade. (unlike Vista which is a $129 for an upgrade from XP)

2. You like community

Linux  by far has the best community out there for an OS. Whether it be forums, blogs, web sites, or IRC chats the Linux community for sure beats Windows by far. Sure Windows has its followers, but if you have a problem and say you post a questions somewhere. You may wait two days for someone to see the post and then respond to it, and then people may give you many answers and it still wouldn’t fix the problem. While in Linux you can post a question on a forum (say the Ubuntu forums) and get a response in 5 minutes with exact concise instructions on how to take care of the problem.

3. You like experimenting

I started out with Linux by just hearing about it and wanting to experiment with it, there is nothing wrong with that. There are tons of ways to experiment that being live cd’s, live usb, and virtual machines.  There is no excuse on why you haven’t tried out Linux.

Linux is also a stable platform so don’t just think of it as some test OS, after you get the hang of it  from a Virtual machine or live cd why don’t you try partitioning your hard drive and actually try it out as your primary OS.

4.  You like to manage your system

With Linux you can get deep inside hardware and software and find out how it really works. You can’t do that with Windows. Microsoft limits the amount of access you have to your hardware and software which can be really aggravating, but Linux doesn’t put those restrictions on you. You are free to look at what ever the hell you want.

5. You just can’t stand Windows anymore

With Vista’s past shortcoming and XP’s age Microsoft sure doesn’t have a lead on Linux. Windows has been blue screening for years, and it look like there is no end in site for that (Linux does have kernel panics, but not as often) Hardware incompatibility, bloat, viruses, and slow boot times are only some of the things that plague Windows. If your are sick of all Microsoft’s crap and Windows slowness then Linux may be for you.
